Truck

play demo  Truck Drivin' ManTRUCK DRIVIN' MAN

words and music by Terry Fell

I stopped at a road house in Texas
A little place called Hamburger Dan
I heard that old jukebox a-playin'
A tune called the Truck Drivin' Man

The waitress then brought me some coffee
I thanked her but called her again
I said that old song sure does fit me
'Cause I'm a truck drivin' man

Pour me another cup of coffee
For it is the best in the land
I'll put a nickel in the jukebox
And play the Truck Drivin' Man

I climbed back aboard my old semi
And then like a flash I was gone
I got them old truck wheels a-rollin'
I'm on my way to San Antone

When I get my call up to Glory
They'll take me away from this land
I'll haul that old truck up to Heaven
'Cause I'm a truck drivin' man

Pour me another cup of coffee
For it is the best in the land
I'll put a nickel in the jukebox
And play the Truck Drivin' Man

play demo  Sometimes I Shoot Back SOMETIMES I SHOOOT BACK

words and music by Brink

If you should try to break my heart, remember this, honey
I might not look smart when I kiss you, honey
But when you start to treat me bad
I might start to use my head
And in that case a lot of things can happen

Many people thought that they could fool me
But I showed them I was not a mental wreck
Any single one that tried to rule me
Had to learn that sometimes I shoot back

So if you ever want to get along with me, honey
Keep it in your mind that I'll stay free, honey
The time you start to terrorize
I will stop to sympathize
And then I hope that you'll be a good loser

Many people thought that they could fool me
But I showed them I was not a mental wreck
Any single one that tried to rule me
Had to learn that sometimes I shoot back

play demo  Crazy Arms CRAZY ARMS

written by Ralph Mooney and Charles Seals

Now blue ain't the word for the way that I feel
And a storm is brewing in this heart of mine
This ain't no crazy dream, I know that it's real
You're someone else's love now, you're not mine

Crazy arms that reach to hold somebody new
While my yearning heart keeps saying you're not mine
My troubled mind knows soon to another you'll be wed
And that's why I'm lonely all the time

So take all those treasured dreams I had for you and me
And take all the love I thought was mine
Someday those crazy arms may hold somebody new
Right now I'm so lonely all the time

Crazy arms that reach to hold somebody new
While my yearning heart keeps saying you're not mine
My troubled mind knows soon to another you'll be wed
And that's why I'm lonely all the time

play demo  More and More MORE AND MORE

words and music by Merle Kilgore

More and more I'm forgetting the past
More and more I'm living at last
Day by day I'm losing my blues
More and more I'm forgetting 'bout you

But oh how I tried to keep you by my side
And oh how I cried the day you told me goodbye
Day by day I'm losing my blues
More and more I'm forgetting 'bout you

play demo  Candle Keep Burning CANDLE, KEEP BURNING

words and music by Heilbronner

The candle burns low
And we've shared our last glass of wine
The tick of the clock
Keeps telling me it's parting time
I know I have failed
My chances to win you are gone
You're leaving my life
And two strangers we'll be from now on

Candle, candle, keep burning
Keep burning, don't send me away
Candle, candle, keep burning
For our first anniversary day

The nights you have cried
Each time that I left you alone
I know I will pay for
With millions of tears of my own
You gave me your love
But I never offered you mine
Now I see the truth
But too late, it's the end of the line

Candle, candle, keep burning
Keep burning, don't send me away
Candle, candle, keep burning
For our first anniversary day
Candle, candle, keep burning
For our last anniversary day

play demo  A Good Woman's Love A GOOD WOMAN'S LOVE

words and music by Cy Coben

I was a rover on land and on sea
Till a good woman's love made a new man of me
Life had no meaning, it was so incomplete
Till a good woman's love put me back on my feet

Instead of roaming I go home in the evening
And she's waiting there
And I know that no matter what happens
She'll always care
And when the night falls and the moon shines above
I'm a man with a dream and a good woman's love

play demo  My Heart Skips A Beat MY HEART SKIPS A BEAT

words and music by Buck Owens

Oh my heart skips a beat when we walk down the street
I feel a trembling in my knees
And just to know you're mine until the end of time
Makes my heart skip a beat

You came into my life without a warning
And you turned my cloudy skies from grey to blue
You're my sunshine that comes up every mornin'
Yes you are my every dream come true

Oh my heart skips a beat when we walk down the street
I feel a trembling in my knees
And just to know you're mine until the end of time
Makes my heart skip a beat

Oh I did a double take the day I met you
My heart turned a flip as I stood next to you
And I knew right there I never would forget you
Yes, you are my every dream come true

play demo  I'm Casting My Lasso Towards The Sky I'M CASTING MY LASSO TOWARDS THE SKY

written by Jimmy Wakely and Lee White

I’m casting my lasso way up towards the sky
Hoping my loop lands on a star
I’m casting my lasso way up there on high
Hoping it reaches that far
I’m going to keep on trying till I find my rainbow's end
I know it’s somewhere hiding just around the bend
Someday I’ll be riding that new range by and by
I’m casting my lasso towards the sky

I’m casting my lasso way up towards the sky
Hoping my loop will carry true
I’m casting my lasso way up there on high
Up toward the heaven so blue
Old pards that left before me are watching while I ride
Up there in heaven’s roundup across the great divide
They're up there riding I’ll join them by and by
I’m casting my lasso towards the sky

play demo  I Promise I'll Pay I PROMISE I'LL PAY

words and music by Heilbronner

Life is so lonely, oh if only you were still by my side
I can't forget you, so why, why should I try
When a man loves a woman like I love you
He commits his entire soul
Now you've turned away and left the blues to stay
And left my poor heart out in the cold

Each night I pray that wherever you are
You'll change your mind some day
Come back, there must be a way
For me to convince you to stay
Name a price, I know it is high
But I don't care, I promise I'll pay

play demo  Take A Letter, Miss Gray TAKE A LETTER, MISS GRAY

words and music by Justin Tubb

Take a letter, Miss Gray, it must go out today
And I think you already know what it’s gonna say
It’s to the one I’m tied to, the one I’m leaving for you
You can tell her it’s over and I can’t help what I do

Make it straight and to the point
There’s no use lying, that won’t do
Make three copies, one for her
One for me and one for you
You can tell her you’re the one
Then just sign it simply John
And oh yes, PS: please forgive what I’ve done

play demo  The Tragic Story Of Bonnie & Clyde THE TRAGIC STORY OF BONNIE AND CLYDE

words and music by Heilbronner

Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were their names
Robbing banks and shooting people brought them fame
They enjoyed a life in danger
Till one day a Texas Ranger
Lured them into a trap and they died in shame

Oh, they met in a dusty Texas town
Started spreading death and violence all around
They would kill to make a living
Couldn't hope to be forgiven
Everybody knew they were disaster bound

Submachine gun barks were their own wedding bells
What they felt down in their hearts no one can tell
'Cause they stayed without a friend
Had no home until the end
No one cried and no one mourned them when they fell

play demo  Too Many Times TOO MANY TIMES

words and music by Heilbronner

Our town won't hold too many secrets
There's too many people
That happen to watch
Too many times
My friends tell me that I forgave you
Much too often
Seems I've been a fool
Too many times

Though lights are dim in certain places
Eyes get accustomed to the dark
Last night they saw you kiss another
And the news just broke my heart
And so I guess my dreams are over
'Cause I've heard about you
Too many things
Too many times

play demo  I'm Gonna Find Me A Bluebird I'M GONNA FIND ME A BLUEBIRD

words and music by Marvin Rainwater

I'm gonna find me a bluebird, let him sing me a song
'Cause my heart's been broken much too long
I'm gonna chase me a rainbow through a heaven of blue
'Cause I'm all through crying over you

There was a time my love was needed
My life completed, my dreams come true
Then came the time my life was haunted
My love unwanted, all because of you

play demo  High On A Hilltop HIGH ON A HILLTOP

words and music by Tommy Collins

High on a hilltop overlooking the city
I watch the bright lights as they gleam
For somewhere you're dancing in some dingy bar room
And the lure of the gayness takes the place of our dream

High on a hilltop my heart cries, Oh Lord
Forgive her, she knows not the way
Just give me the power to believe and some day
High on a hilltop together we'll pray

I can vision a rounder with a line so smooth
With a promise of riches for you
But you see not the danger for you're silly with booze
And from high on a hilltop I see the devil in you

Bonnie&Clyde

Translation of sleeve notes:

“Bonnie and Clyde” - this boisterous screen broadside ballad about America's notorious gangster couple has not only brought new life to the fashion of those days. It also presented a new kind of sound to the fascinated moviegoers on the other side of the Big Pond: Each time the killcrazy lovers escape their pursuers, driving their motor vehicles cross-country in neckbreaking pace, the steely staccato of the banjo is heard over the allout noise with the “Foggy Mountain Breakdown”. Such hereabouts hitherto hardly heard sounds are also found in the song “The Tragic Story Of Bonnie And Clyde”. The “Berlin Ramblers” (the photo shows them in a proper-style pose) offer a music beyond the every-day realms with the rest of the songs on this album as well. The topics are comfortingly realistic, especially where their own compositions are concerned. The B&C ballad describes the way of the two outlaws to perdition without embellishing pseudo-romanticism. Then there is the song about the man who, on his first anniversary day, has to realize that he has lost his wife (“Candle, Keep Burning”). “Too Many Times” tells about a girl who is being talked about so much in the little town that all dreams of happiness are crushed. “Stories written by life itself” are presented here convincingly with an unconventional sound. And since life is known to have many ways there is hope that the “Berlin Ramblers” will not run out of material for a long time to come.

play demo  The Race Is On THE RACE IS ON

written by George Jones and Don Rollins

I feel tears wellin' up cold and deep inside
Like my heart's sprung a big break
And the stab of loneliness, sharp and painful
That I may never shake
Now you might say that I was taking it hard
Since you wrote me off with a call
But don't you wager that I'll hide the sorrow
When I may break right down and bawl

Now the race is on and here comes pride up the backstretch
Heartaches are going to the inside
My tears are holding back
They're trying not to fall
My heart's out of the running
True love's scratched for another's sake
The race is on and it looks like heartaches
And the winner loses all

One day I had ventured in love, never once suspecting
What the final results would be
How I lived in fear of waking up each morning
And finding that you'd gone from me
There's aching and pain in my heart
For the day was the one that I hated to face
Somebody new came up to win her
And I came out in second place

play demo  White Lightning WHITE LIGHTNING

words and music by Jiles P. Richardson

Well in North Carolina, way back in the hills
Me and my old pappy had a hand in a still
We brewed white lightnin' 'til the sun went down
Then he'd fill him a jug and he'd pass it around
Mighty, mighty pleasin, pappy's corn squeezin'
Whshhhoooh . . . white lightnin'

Well the G-men, T-men, revenuers, too
Searchin' for the place where he made his brew
They were looking, tryin to book him,
But my pappy kept a-cookin'
Whshhhoooh . . . white lightnin'

Well I asked my old pappy why he called his brew
White lightnin' 'stead of mountain dew
I took a little sip and right away I knew
As my eyes bugged out and my face turned blue
Lightnin' started flashin' and thunder started crashin'
Shhhoooh . . . white lightnin'

Well a city slicker came and he said "I'm tough
I think I wanna taste that powerful stuff”
He took one g-g-glug and drank it right down
And I heard him a-moaning as he hit the ground
Mighty, mighty pleasin', pappy's corn squeezin'
Whshhhoooh . . . white lightnin'

play demo  He'll Have To Go HE'LL HAVE TO GO

words and music by Joe Allison

Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone
Let's pretend that we're together all alone
I'll tell the man to turn the jukebox way down low
And you can tell your friend there with you he'll have to go

Whisper to me, tell me do you love me true
Or is he holding you the way I do
Though love is blind make up your mind, I've got to know
Should I hang up or will you tell him he'll have to go

You can't say the words I want to hear
While you're with another man
Do you want me, answer yes or no
Darling, I will understand

Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone
Let's pretend that we're together all alone
I'll tell the man to turn the jukebox way down low
And you can tell your friend there with you he'll have to go

play demo  Cattle Call CATTLE CALL

words and music by Tex Owens

The cattle are prowlin', the coyotes are howlin'
Way out where the dogies bawl
Where spurs are a-jinglin' a cowboy is singin'
This lonesome cattle call

He rides in the sun 'til his day's work is done
And he rounds up the cattle each fall
Woo - hoo - woo - ooo - ti - de
Singin' his cattle call

For hours he will ride on the range far and wide
When the night winds blow up a squall
His heart is a feather in all kinds of weather
He sings his cattle call

He's brown as a berry from ridin' the prairie
And he sings with an ol' western drawl
Woo - hoo - woo - ooo - ti - de
Singin' his cattle call

play demo  Together Again TOGETHER AGAIN

written by David Cavanaugh and David Dexter

Together again, my tears have stopped falling
The long lonely nights are now at an end
The key to my heart you hold in your hand
And nothing else matters now we're together again
Together again, those gray skies are gone
You're back in my arms now where you belong
The love that I knew is living again
And nothing else matters now we're together again

play demo  Whispering Pines WHISPERING PINES

words and music by Howard Halsey

The snowflakes fall as winter calls and time just seems to fly
Is it the loneliness in me that makes me want to cry
My heart is sad like a morning dove that's lost its mate in flight
Hear the cooing of his lonely heart through the stillness of the night

Whispering pines whispering pines, tell me is it so
Whispering pines whispering pines, you're the one who knows
My darling's gone, oh she's gone and I need your sympathy
Whispering pines, send my baby back to me

See that squirrel up in the tree, his mate there on the ground
Hear their barking call of love for the happiness they found
Is my love still my love, oh this I gotta know
Send a message by the wind because I miss her so

play demo  They Made Me Fall In Love With You THEY MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH YOU

written by Ted Edlin and Frank Duke

Who put the gold in your hair and the smile on your face
And the devil in your eyes of blue
I want to thank someone for all the things they've done
Because they made me fall in love with you

Who put the kiss on your lips and the hug in your arms
And the goodness in your heart so true
I want to thank someone for all the things they've done
Because they made me fall in love with you

I'll thank your papa and I'll tell him that
He's got a pretty daughter
I'll thank your mama and if she doesn't look like you
I'll tell her that she really oughta

Who put the style in your talk and the zip in your walk
And the sweetness in each thing you do
I want to thank someone for all the things they've done
Because they made me fall in love with you

Who told you how to be sweet and to dress up so neat
And to whisper darling I love you
I want to thank someone for all the things they've done
Because they made me fall in love with you

Who told you when to say yes and to bring happiness
And to promise always to be true
I want to thank someone for all the things they've done
Because they made me fall in love with you

play demo  Hello Trouble HELLO TROUBLE

written by Eddie McDuff and Orville Couch

Woke up this morning happy as could be
Looked out my window and what did I see?
Comin' up my sidewalk just as plain as day
Well here comes trouble that I never thought I'd see
When you went away
Hello trouble, come on in you talk about heartaches
Where in the world you been?
I ain't had the miseries since you been gone
Hello trouble, trouble, trouble, welcome home

I'll make a pot of coffee and you can rest your shoes
Then you'll tell me them sweet lies and I'll listen to you
For I'm just a little part of all the life you've lived
But I'd rather have a little bit of trouble
Than to never know the love you can give

play demo  Funny, How Time Slips Away FUNNY HOW TIME SLIPS AWAY

words and music by Willie Nelson

Well, hello there
My, it's been a long, long time
How am I doing?
Oh, I guess that I'm doing fine
It's been so long now
But it seems now that it was only yesterday
Gee, ain't it funny how time slips away

How's your new love?
I hope that he's doing fine
I heard you told him
That you'd love him till the end of time
Now, that's the same thing that you told me
Seems like just the other day
Gee, ain't it funny how time slips away

I gotta go now
I guess I'll see you around
Don't know when though
Never know when I'll be back in town
But remember what I tell you
In time you're gonna pay
And it's surprising how time slips away

play demo  Big Surprise BIG SURPRISE

words and music by Heilbronner

You left our home and told me it was over
That too much love had bored you for too long
You laughed and said that someday you'd surprise me
You'd get your kicks and then you'd come back home

But time has healed my heart and now it’s over
I've managed to stop crying over you
The door that once was open will stay shut now
And won't that be a big surprise to you

You thought I could be used at your convenience
You were so doggone sure that I’d give in
But I’m not gonna fit your evil schemes, dear
And finally the puppet’s broke the string

Yes, time has healed my heart and now it’s over
I've managed to stop crying over you
The door that once was open will stay shut now
And won't that be a big surprise to you

play demo  Distant Woman DISTANT WOMAN

words and music by Heilbronner

I see your eyes in the candlelight
I hear your voice in the summer night
I'm yearning for the tender touch
Of your fingers on my skin
And 'though for now we're far apart
You'll live right here inside my heart
Until one day the sun will shine
On both you and me again

Distant woman, do you know how much I miss you
Distant woman, can you feel it in your heart
Keep believing, 'cause one day I'll come and kiss you
Once again and never more we'll be apart

Like the northern stream with its spring so clear
Your memory runs always near
Horizons that I'm searching
Show your silhouette so true
And 'though we're far apart for now
The distance I will bridge somehow
I'll travel all those lonesome roads
And make it back to you

play demo  Following A Memory FOLLOWING A MEMORY

words and music by Heilbronner

Another morning, and I'm back on my feet
Following a memory so painful, yet so sweet
She was my life, but I drove her away
Now I keep praying to bring her back some day

Train whistle blowing keeps telling me I'm wasting my time
Another evening, the search has been in vain one more time
Yes, one more time
Maybe tomorrow I'll end my lonesome chase
Forget that memory and settle down someplace

Narration:
